Of all the things to research from the ancient Roman world, why makeup? I am very passionate about and interested in chemistry and it's role in the everyday world, and makeup is probably one of the chemical applications from the ancient world that is most relevant to my life and to modern times, so I thought it would be interesting to explore chemistry as well as ancient beauty. I started with a basic Google search, and was surprised to find very little on the subject. Then I bumped up my search to Google Scholar, and was once again surprised to find very little. However, from what I did come across, the sources had bits of different information. It was a bit difficult to find what I wanted to learn. Many of the sources during my search had different types of cosmetics and how they were applied, but I really wanted to know how they were made and what they were made of. I came across an online video from a show on the History Channel called "Just Another Day." From this video, which featured an expert on Roman archeology. I learned about the basic and most common cosmetics, their components, and even a demonstration of how to make and apply them. After I had found this video, I felt satisfied in my search because the video was a nice way to learn by example how to makeup, which I was planning on doing for the project.
